Check Eligibility
Confirm you meet the basic requirements: current sophomore or junior, live in Medford city limits or attend a Medford high school, family willing to host, and commit to planning meetings June - March.
Complete Application by April 29
Complete the online application form which includes a 500-word essay, a letter of recommendation, and one more reference. Details can be found on the application.
Interview
Come to Medford City Hall for a short evening interview with the selection committee to discuss your readiness!
Selection Notification
Selected ambassadors will be notified and must commit to the full preparation schedule and program requirements.
Prepare
Attend all scheduled meetings to plan for the Italian visit, fundraising, participate in Italian culture lessons and trip planning from June 2026 - March 2027.
Tips for a Strong Application
Be Genuine
Write from the heart. Tell us YOUR story, not what you think we want to hear. We're looking for authentic enthusiasm for cultural exchange.
Explain Your 'Why'
Go beyond 'I want to travel.' Explain what cultural exchange means to you and how you hope to grow from this experience.
Show Maturity
Demonstrate that you can handle being away from home, adapting to new situations, and representing your community well.
Get Strong Recommendations
Ask teachers who know you well, not just those who gave you good grades. We want to hear about your character.
Prepare for the Interview
Think about why this matters to you. Be yourself, be curious, and show that you're ready for this adventure.
Commit Fully
This program requires dedication throughout the school year. Make sure you're ready to prioritize meetings and preparation.
